Here are some more small information articles from a weekend newspaper lift-out called “Body and Soul” which makes some positive claims about drinking coffee.
EXERCISE AND COFFEE EQUALS LESS SKIN CANCER
Grabbing a coffee after your workout gives you more than a happy buzz; it may also be protecting your skin from cancer.
Research on mice has found the combo of exercise and caffeine reduces the number of skin tumors in cancer-prone mice by 62%. Tumors also shrank by 85% in treated animals.
The researchers say the reason is the anti-inflammatory effect of the combination, and believe humans will experience the same skin benefits as mice.
CAN 6 CUPS OF COFFEE REDUCE THE RISK OF PROSTRATE CANCER?
In a 10 year Harvard University study of 47,911 men, those who drank six or more cups of coffee a day were almost 20% less likely to develop prostrate cancer than non-coffee drinkers. “We’re not yet telling men to drink more coffee,” the study’s lead author Kathryn Wilson says. “But there’s mounting evidence that if they do, they don’t have to worry about it.”
Wilson says there might be some truth to this, but says: “Evidence suggests the prostrate benefit is just as strong with green tea, which has less caffeine.”
Dietician Sonya Stanley says people should also be aware of the negative effects of higher caffeine levels, such as “increased anxiety, insomnia and gastrointestinal upset”.
